Risk Factors about Stomach Cancer

Stomach cancer is a cancer which is a cancer which can easily affect the other organs of human body. A stomach cancer can easily grow through the stomach outer layer in to the nearby organs like the esophagus, intestine or the pancreas. Stomach’s cells being infected with cancer can easily spread through the blood to the lungs, liver and other organs. These cells can even spread all the way through the lymphatic system to the lymph nodules present all over the body. As stomach cancer moves from its actual place to other body parts, the new tumor forms it contains the same type of anomalous cells do share common name and properties.

Doctors have not been able to find the exact causes behind stomach cancer and they are usually not able to give an explanation about the development of this disease in human beings. But researches have been showing that people having certain risk factors are more likely to be affected by this disease than others who do not have such risk factors. Risk factor refers to the reasons which raise the chances of developing the disease in question. Following are the risk factors associated with stomach cancer:

ü It has been found that most people suffering from stomach cancer are 72 years of age or older.

ü Research has also shown that men are more likely to be affected by stomach cancer than women.

ü Stomach cancer is mostly found in people from Africa, America- non Hispanic whites, Hispanic, Pacific Island and Asia.

ü Studies have also shown that people who consume foods which are salted, pickled or smoked are at an augmented risk for stomach cancer whereas people who eat fresh vegetables and fruits are well protected.

ü People who are in a habit of smoking are at an increased risk to develop stomach cancer.

ü People who have undergone stomach surgery, or have suffered from chronic gastritis and pernicious anemia are more likely to suffer from stomach cancer.

ü An uncommon kind of stomach cancer runs in families with the disease history.
